Folkestone to Dover — Blue Colourway
A coastal montage celebrating the atmosphere, landmarks and landscape of Kent’s eastern coastline, from Folkestone Harbour across The Warren and towards the White Cliffs of Dover.
A hand-printed interpretation of my largest linocut to date, capturing the changing light, textures and character of the coastline through a limited blue colour-way edition.
Full Description
Folkestone to Dover brings together the defining elements of Kent’s eastern coastline into a single panoramic composition — from the lighthouse and working fishing boats of Folkestone Harbour, to the cliffs, wildlife and wild landscape of The Warren, stretching towards the iconic White Cliffs of Dover.
This blue colourway was developed during my exploration of larger-scale hand printing, created on an A0 relief press while experimenting with colour, atmosphere and the possibilities of the design. I was drawn to the misty, coastal mood created by the blue tones, capturing the quiet beauty and changing weather of the shoreline.
Printed from two hand-carved linoleum blocks, each impression is built through layered relief printing using traditional oil-based inks and a double rainbow roll technique. Every print is individually registered and hand-pulled, allowing subtle variations in colour, texture and ink to emerge through the process.
The result is a more pared-back interpretation of the coastline — a study in atmosphere, light and place.
